The Super Visa is an excellent option for Canadian citizens or permanent residents who want their parents or grandparents to visit them in Canada for extended periods. Unlike a regular tourist visa, the Super Visa allows stays of up to 5 years per entry, with the possibility of multiple entries over a period of up to 10 years.
Who can apply for a Super Visa?
The Super Visa is available for the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. To qualify, both the applicant and the sponsor must meet certain requirements:
Requirements for the sponsor (child or grandchild residing in Canada):
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Demonstrate a minimum required income (Low Income Cut-Off) to ensure financial support for the applicant.
- Provide an invitation letter that includes details of financial support, the visit plan, and a copy of their status as a citizen or permanent resident.
Requirements for the applicant (parent or grandparent):
- Obtain private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company with coverage for at least 1 year and a minimum of $100,000 CAD.
- Undergo an immigration medical exam.
- Demonstrate ties to their home country (such as employment, property, family connections) that justify their intention to return once the visit is over.
- Meet the entry requirements for Canada, including a clean immigration history.
