Studying in Canada
Study permit applications are sometimes rejected if the visa officer does not understand the logic behind your choice of program. Therefore, the selected program should align with your work experience and/or education. If not, a logical explanation must be provided demonstrating that the chosen program will enhance your job prospects in your home country.
Good news! Yes, it’s possible that you may be able to bring your spouse or common-law partner, along with your dependent children, with you to Canada. They may be eligible for a study or work permit, or a visitor visa.
You may be eligible to work in Canada while studying if you are enrolled in a full-time designated learning institution (DLI). Your study permit will indicate if you’re allowed to work in Canada and the employment conditions. If your study program is less than six months in duration, or if you’re enrolled in an English as a Second Language (ESL) or French as a Second Language (FSL) program, you are not eligible to work. It’s important to remember that you cannot start working while studying in Canada until you begin your study program.
Starting in 2021, Canada requires international students to demonstrate $10,000 CAD for self-support, $4,000 CAD for their spouse, and $3,000 CAD for each dependent, plus the cost of the first year of studies
Scholarships may be available for international students from private, government, or public institutions in Canada. There might be scholarships available for international students from the chosen institution of study.
Working in Canada
One cannot apply for a work visa solely with the desire to work in Canada. The process must be initiated by a Canadian employer seeking to hire a foreign worker. In most cases, the job offer must be supported by a positive LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment). However, there are exceptions.
Those interested in working in Canada can conduct job searches online through various sources such as jobbank.gc.ca, which is the official government job search engine, as well as well-known engines like indeed.ca, monster.ca, LinkedIn, etc. At Velosa Immigration, we can assist you once you have obtained a job offer.
No. Under no circumstances should an employer charge a foreign worker for a job offer.
An open work permit is one that allows a foreign worker to work for any employer in Canada. Open work permits do not require individuals to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or a job offer when applying for a work permit through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Closed work permits require a foreign worker to work only for the employer who has obtained a positive LMIA and provided a job offer. If a foreign worker will no longer work for this employer, they must apply to change the conditions of their work permit if they wish to continue working legally in Canada.
Express Entry
No. Express Entry is an electronic system used to manage applications from skilled workers who wish to become permanent residents of Canada. Once an interested candidate submits an online profile, the federal government determines if the candidate is eligible for a program managed by Express Entry. Eligible candidates are accepted into the Express Entry pool and are ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS is a points-based system used by the government to assess and rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. The CRS score is calculated based on a candidate’s age, education, work experience, language skills, and other factors.
Immigration consultation
Absolutely, in such cases, it would be highly beneficial to consider a 60-minute consultation. This allows for a comprehensive analysis of the various available programs and the opportunity to customize options based on your specific profile and requirements. This extended time frame facilitates a more detailed and enriching analysis, ensuring you receive comprehensive and accurate guidance for making an informed decision.
Once you’ve formalized your appointment, we’ll send you a confirmation email detailing the specifics of the appointment. As part of the pre-consultation process, we’ll ask you to complete a questionnaire covering aspects of your profile, such as date of birth, country of origin, occupation, and additional remarks. This information is crucial to our thorough preparation, ensuring we can provide tailored and valuable guidance.
The costs will be detailed during the booking process and will be expressed in Canadian dollars, ensuring transparency regarding the cost structure.
It’s essential for us to suggest that our clients participate in the consultation from a comfortable and distraction-free environment, with a stable internet connection. Since recording of the session is not allowed, we strongly recommend taking notes during the consultation to maintain a detailed record of the points discussed. If you’ve already begun the migration process and have relevant documents you’d like us to examine, we kindly encourage you to send them at least two business days before your scheduled consultation for a thorough review.
Within two business days, you will receive a comprehensive email summarizing the topics covered during the consultation and outlining the next steps. If you’re interested in the study-related immigration pathway, you will have the privilege of being connected with an educational advisor at no additional cost.
