Why I chose to live in Ottawa?

Ottawa, is Canada’s capital city, has a population of 1 million and is strategically located close to two of Canada’s largest cities. You can easily visit Montreal on the same day, since it would only be a two-hour car ride to get there and enjoy the francophone atmosphere that Montreal has to offer. If you prefer to spend a weekend in Canada’s most populated city, with a more English-speaking atmosphere, Toronto is only a five-hour drive from Ottawa. In just a weekend you can visit Toronto, the Niagara Falls, as well as the CN Tower. In Ottawa you will also find many tourist attractions. Undoubtedly, the Canadian Parliament is one of the most important, followed by the Rideau Canal, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You can also find several museums like,  of History, Art and War,.

A tip worth considering is visiting these attractions   on Thursdays after 5 pm,because  the admission fee is  free. However, you must book your free ticket online prior to visiting. Furthermore, Ottawa offers a good life and work balance. This is because Ottawa is surrounded by a lot of greenery and  has many parks and trails, allowing people to leave work to enjoy these green areas. Many residents live a very active and healthy lifestyle.

If you want to practice your French, all you have to do is  cross one of the 5 bridges that connects Ottawa with Gatineau, a city in Quebec which is on the other side of the Ottawa River. Being the capital of Canada, in Ottawa-Gatineau, you can enjoy many events throughout the year. July 1st is the day where everyone gathers in the streets to enjoy concerts, shows and many activities on the occasion of Canada Day, its Day of Confederation. Ottawa offers many job opportunities for those who are interested in working with the government. In Ottawa you can find many career opportunities in administration, accounting and finance .

Ottawa is characterized for being a very quiet and safe city. You will also find many bilingual people since it is considered a bilingual city and all the traffic signs are in English and French. The cost of living in Ottawa is much cheaper than that of Toronto, but a little more expensive than Montreal. If you are a person who likes quiet cities, without a lot of traffic and of a medium size, Ottawa can be a viable option for you.

But if you are a person who likes bigger cities with lots of events on weekends and a lively nightlife, Ottawa may not be the best option. Many families choose to live in Ottawa, as it is known to be a city that is great for raising a family. It is a big city with a small-town vibe.
