Calgary’s population is around 1.6 million, making it the third largest municipality and fourth largest metropolitan area in Canada.  Calgary is the largest city in the province of Alberta, located in  the western part of the country.

Alberta has a continental climate, with more sunshine than any other Canadian province and Calgary being the sunniest city in the country.  It is often called the sunshine capital of Canada.  Each year there are approximately 333 sunny days and 2,396 hours of sunshine.  Winters are dry, sunny and cold, although  Chinook winds, which occur when warm, dry air of Pacific origin descends down the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, temperatures can rise as high as 20°C in an hour or less.

The lifestyle in Calgary focuses more on outdoor recreation than urban entertainment. Calgary is one of the best cities in Canada to live in due to its proximity to some of the most beautiful national parks in the country. Parks include Banff National Park, Kananaskis Country and Jasper National Park. Plus, the city is within a reasonable driving distance of five world-class ski resorts, numerous lakes, the U.S. border, and more. In addition, Calgary has the most extensive network of urban roads and bike lanes in North America.

Compared to other big cities  like Toronto and Vancouver, the nightlife in Calgary isn’t the best. Despite this, Calgary still offers plenty of ways to enjoy a fun and exciting night out. There are many bars, pubs, restaurants and nightclubs throughout the city.  Alberta is famous for its ‘Berta Beef’, so there are plenty of good steak options throughout the city, but there are also a variety of reasonably priced fine dining in Calgary. Calgary has a selection of world-class theaters and music venues, including: Jack Singer Concert Hall, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Alberta Theatre Projects and Glenbow museum.  Calgary is also very proud of its tradition in country music, and you’re likely to hear it a lot if you decide to live in Calgary.

The key sectors driving the economy of Calgary and Alberta are aerospace, agribusiness, energy and environment, financial services, technology, transportation and logistics.

Calgary offers a fairly low cost of living, most things are affordable. Calgary has a much lower  cost of living than several large North American cities. In addition, provincial income, personal income and inheritance taxes are among the lowest in Canada. In addition, Alberta is the only province without sales tax.

Calgary is one of the best and most affordable cities to move to in Canada.  Calgary offers excellent job opportunities in a variety of fields.  Moving to Calgary also introduces outdoor living.  So if you want to incorporate outdoor activities like hiking, biking, skiing, and more into your routine activities, then Calgary is for you.
