Are you considering applying for a job offer in Canada and still don’t know how to organize your resume or curriculum vitae? Depending on the country, the structure of a resume can change, and today we want to share with you some important tips that you should consider when making a Canadian-style resume.
Information you should add
1. Personal information
- First and last name
- E-mail address
- Telephone number
2. Mention your profession
- Type of professional activity and degree obtained
3. Academic background
- You need to know that your education is very important for Canadian companies. Therefore, you must include your degrees, the institution where you completed them, and the date you finished them.
4. Work Experience
- Include a summary of your work experience during the last 10 years, highlighting the most relevant and most related to the offer you are applying for.
5. Objectives achieved
- Mention all the objectives achieved in a quantifiable way; you must show with numbers the objectives you achieved in your previous work experiences.
6. Skills
- These skills will make the difference between your resume and other applicants. As a tip, we will tell you that you can adapt your skills according to the job offer you are applying for.
7. Languages
- Stipulate in a very concrete way, list the languages you speak, and specify your level.
8. Additional information
- Some CVs have additional sections where they add information such as volunteering, personal or work references, etc.
Information you should omit
- It is important to know that CVs in Canada do not have photographs attached.
- You should not include age, gender, religion, marital status, nationality, or date of birth.
- Do not include your salary expectations; this is something that the recruiter will probably ask you during the interview. We recommend that you research the best ways to answer this question, as it is among the most common in interviews.
- Hobbies are generally not included.
TIP
If you want to go a step further, you can also make a digital portfolio to creatively attach the services you offer and the projects you have worked on. To learn more, you can enter here.
Finally, we want to mention that a Canadian resume should not have more than two pages; employers do not spend a lot of time reviewing three and four pages.
