5 things to do as soon as you arrive in Canada

You’ve already fulfilled your dream of reaching the maple leaf country, now what?

When we move to a new place, it is very important that we understand there are things we must get done upon our arrival.

Here are some of the things I recommend you do when settling in Canada:

  1. Buy a sim card: In Canada there are more than 10 telecommunication companies that offer cell phone plans. On their websites you will find the detailed packages so that you can choose one that adjusts to your budget. In Canada, cellular plans are somewhat expensive compared to other countries, so you must analyze well and choose the one that best suits your needs. Here are some examples: Fido, Bell, Rogers, Telus, Chatr, Freedom, etc.
  2. Rent your place of residence: It is very important to plan this even before you arrive. You should research the requirements to rent a home, since in each city it can vary. But in general, these are the main points: Employment letter, bank statements showing that you have the necessary funds to cover your housing expenses Valid ID.
  3. Take out your SIN Number: This is one of the first things you must do. The SIN is the Social Insurance Number, it is a 9-digit number which will help you work, apply for credits and access government benefits. It is a unique number that you should not disclose or make public.
  4. Open your bank account: Having your bank account will help you start your credit history in Canada. Once your visa is approved, you can open it even before you arrive. In addition, it is very easy to access a credit card, but beware! your credit score is sacred so make sure to pay things on time.
  5. Get to know everything about your new neighborhood: You can do this before you arrive. Once you know what your home or the area where you will reside will be, you can download the Google Maps app to see which shops, restaurants, gyms, shopping centers, and subway stations will be near you. Thus, you will feel more familiar when you arrive.

Now that you have an idea of the first things you need to do, it’s time to enjoy and get used to the new culture, food and people.

Enjoy your stay in Canada!

This allows visitors to apply for a work permit without leaving the country, as long as they meet certain requirements, such as having valid visitor status and a job offer from a Canadian employer. The process includes applying online, submitting biometrics, and maintaining legal status while awaiting a response. Seeking professional assistance is recommended to avoid errors and ensure a successful application.
