A new year begins, new goals and new projects. Many people want to immigrate to another country to obtain those benefits and privileges they are deprived of in their countries of residence or origin. Today I want to tell you why 4 years ago I chose Canada as the country I want to live in. Initially, I came to Canada only to take an English course for 8 months to later return to my home country Colombia.
My Name is Daira Vera and you can find me all social media platforms as a @unpasaportelatino and today I want to share with you how I started working towards my goal to migrate to Canada.
Although only 4 years have passed, I have seen that all the immigration processes have changed and the government has made it easier for those who want to make Canada their home.

My principal objective in 2019 was only to learn and improve my English, and after that go back home with my family. It was the first time I was living in a first world country and I fell in love with the quality of life, its organization, the job opportunities, but also for the security and protection that this wonderful country has to offer to its residents. This gave me an urge to extend not only one time but multiple times my visa to find a way to obtain permanent residency.

Today, I have a valid work permit of at least 3 years, during which time I will be working to make my immigration profile stronger in order to apply to be a resident. However, during my process I made a lot of mistakes, mistakes that you can avoid if you take in account the following points:
- Have a good plan, I mean, You must know if you want to migrate to Canada for a short period of time or if you will prefer to stay here permanently.
- Research a lot! This point is super important, it will help you to avoid a denied visa, and you can do it in two ways: Researching by yourself or doing your process with an Immigration and education Agency, as a tip I suggest you find an agency that has good reviews
- Consider which program is the best option for you. It is a very important to consider your potential Canadian career. I will suggest you to research the job opportunities that Canada offers in your area
- You must account for the funds you need to start your process and come to Canada. It is good to at least have some savings for the 3 first months when you arrive in Canada.
- Finally, you must be open minded to start a new life from zero, you need to know that probably at the beginning things will be difficult.
I want to tell you that even thought this process has been long and full of obstacles it, it has been worthwhile and today I can say it has been the best decision I made in 2018
